separate the sorrows and collect up all the cream

The Wiki page for Sammy Davis Jr. who was an amazing man.

When Sammy was married to May Britt interracial marriages were still illegal in 31 states. Sammy was left of the invite of the inaugural ball, hosted by Frank Sinatra because of this. Sammy was later invited to sleep over at the White House by President Nixon and is believed to be the first African American to be invited to do so.

He has won a Grammy and an Emmy and been nominated for a Golden Globe and a Tony.

The Rat Pack was originally known as the Clan but changed because Sammy objected because it was too similar to the Ku Klux Klan.

There are many more interesting facts about this great entertainer, born in Harlem and died in Beverly Hills, who first toured at age 3. He died the same day as Jim Henson, creator of the Muppets.

If you're so inclined, here's another link to an amazing video of Sammy that brings a tear to my eye... after TEN years I still grieve when the dog up and died...

In your honor today, Samuel Davis Jr., I am going to make myself a groovy lemon pie...
